How To Make Money On The Road (The Experts Speak)

Today I want to introduce you to a full-time RV family with whom I have a HUGE crush.  I love keeping up with their stories through their various social media channels, they always seem to be up to something fun and trying new things.  They are lucky enough that they get to travel alongside their extended family for some of the time, how cool would that be!

Creating multiple income streams including a Virtual Assistant business, they have been full-time RVers since 2014 and travel all over the country with their 4 kids.

This is a very industrious couple, running a VA Business, consulting, maintaining their blog and podcasts, AND offering courses on Pinterest and How To Start A Virtual Business.  All of this while having fun and doing lots of exploring with their kids!

Craig and Bryanna are high school sweethearts who, much the same as us, were living the dream life with a big house – a swimming pool and lots of ‘stuff’.  Craig went to work while Bryanna stayed home with the kids.  As has happened with so many of us, they were just not happy with the status quo and longed to travel.

In 2014, they made the leap and have never looked back. Writing about everyday life on the road, making money, and giving advice, their blog is a great read and fun to follow. We highly recommend you do!

Tell Us A Little About Yourself.  Who Are You And What Do You Do?

Hi! My name is Bryanna and my husband, Craig and I and our 4 kids and dog travel full time around North America in our RV!

How Long Have You Been Traveling In Your RV With Your Family?

We have been traveling since May 2014.

Tell Us A Little Bit About Your RV?

We started with a 39-foot diesel pusher motorhome but over the years decided we wanted something smaller to make traveling around easier. We are now in a 21-foot travel trailer that we tow with our 12 passenger Chevy van.

What Do You Love The Most About This lifestyle?

The freedom and being able to set our own schedule while also being able to explore this amazing world that we live in.

What Do You Lost The Most About This Lifestyle

Deciding where to go next, as there are so many options.  And also navigating parenting while also planning where we are traveling to, working and life. We want our kids to have a say in what we do and to be able to meet their ongoing individual needs. As any parent knows this is challenging and being on the road doesn’t make it any easier!

How Do You Find The Time To Get Work Done?

I work while my husband has the kids. I also try to do some work at night while everyone is sleeping or get up early in the morning.

What Does A Typical Day Look Like For You?

There is no typical day :). Every day is really different – we may be staying at a campsite all day so I can get caught up on work, and my husband takes the kids to the pool, or they play around the campsite. Or we could be traveling all day or we could be out exploring the location we are at.

It really varies and a lot of the time we have to ask each other what day of the week it is.

Where Is Your Favorite Place That You Have Traveled To So Far?

There is no way I could say one! A few of our top choices are Glacier National Park, Destin Florida area, the Florida Keys and Banff National Park area.

Is There Somewhere You Haven’t Been But Want To Visit?

Everywhere overseas! And Alaska and Hawaii.

Why did you decide to start a Virtual Assistant business?

Grainne’s note: For those of you who don’t know what a Virtual Assistant is, basically it’s someone who works as a freelance professional for other business owners in various capacities.  You work from the comfort of your own home or RV in Bryanna’s case.

You don’t have any set hours as such, so you can work around the days where you will be out and about exploring and focus on work the days you are hanging out in a campground.  Virtual Assistants can work in many different areas – managing someone’s calendar and email,  taking care of all their social media tasks, writing and publishing blog posts.

You could start off offering one service and find out like Bryanna that you really enjoy a certain type of work and then niche down.  This is a perfect business for those of us who love traveling around the country exploring. You don’t answer to anyone, you just need to ensure the work gets done for your client. They don’t care if it gets done at 5 in the morning!

At first, I was looking for a way to make additional money and then we saw it as an opportunity that could support our family full time so I went for it. There are so many different options and ways you can go with being a VA that it seemed like a great fit. I quickly found I wanted to specialize in certain areas and have since narrowed down what I offer to Social Media, Pinterest, Email Marketing and blogging for small businesses. We also have a graphic designer and website designer on our team.

What Advice Would You Give To Someone Who Is Interested Tn becoming a Virtual Assistant?

Just get started! You won’t really know what you want to do or what you enjoy until you start. So find 1 client and give it a try and see what you think! From there just keep moving forward, do great work, and keep learning.

Do You Ever Think You Will Go Back To Living In A Stationary Home?

maybe for short lengths of time like a few months and then we would get back on the road for a while and then stay put for a while. But I can’t see ever being content just staying in one place for too long!

We want to thank Bryanna for taking some time out of her busy schedule to be with us.
