How To Become a Freelance Writer and Travel Anywhere

Today I want to introduce you to Elna Cain, Elna is not a Full-Time traveler but she is an amazing blogger and a freelance writer.  She has several sites that she runs, including Elna CainTwins Mommy and Write to 1K..  I came across Elna when I was first looking at getting into blogging and I ended up buying her Ready Set Blog for Traffic and it is everything I hoped for and more.  I get so tired buying programs that don’t meet my expectations, this was not the case with Elna, her program exceeded my expectations and then some.  She is the real deal!

Today Elna is going to explain how she became a freelance writer and tell us all about her course Write to 1k!.

Tell us a little about yourself.  Who are you and what do you do?

My name is Elna Cain and I’m a freelance writer and professional blogger.  I also have twins who are five years old. I write for digitally native.

How did you get started as a freelance writer?

I started thinking about freelance writing when my twins were around 16 months of age. I finished my maternity leave (where I live I get a year off for maternity) and I knew I didn’t want to go back to my job in the school system. I wanted to stay home with my twins. Plus the cost of putting my twins in daycare would just eat up what little pay I would receive from my job.  So, my husband suggested I find work at home. I researched online and found many mom bloggers doing freelance writing.

This interested me and I researched more about freelance writing. I ended up making several mistakes in the beginning but quickly learned how to market my business and land gigs.

How many hours do you have to put in to make a full-time income as a freelance writer?

I built my business as a part-time hustle. I was able to make a full-time income doing this only part-time.

This past year was the first time I became a full-time blogger. My twins started Kindergarten and I was able to expand my business to include more blogs and more products.

Can anyone make money doing this type of work?

I feel those that have the passion, motivation and the skill to write can make this a success.

How has freelance writing changed your life?

The biggest change for me is the flexibility of my days. A mom friend of mine has two children and works a 9-5 job. I see her every morning leave the house no later than 8:20 am and often come home past 6:30 pm. Her children attend daycare since her parents also work and I can see this mom is in the 9-5 grind.

I’m fortunate that most mornings are relaxing and that I can run errands when I want, cook healthy meals and be there for my twins when they have a school function.

Tell me about your course and how it can benefit someone who is brand new to the idea of freelance writing?

My comprehensive course is called Write Your Way to Your First $1k.

I wanted to give a proven blueprint for starting a freelance writing business. I didn’t want others to make the same mistakes as I did, so this course gives you the A to Z of becoming a freelance writer. I walk you through as a complete beginner and by the end, you should have the tools, resources, and support (as there is a thriving private Facebook group for course students) to get to – and exceed – your first $1k as a writer.

Aside from your course, are there are any other expenses involved in getting started in freelance writing?

Yes. If you want to make a living as a writer, then you will need a writer website, an editing tool like Grammarly and possible an email list.

If someone was to put the work in, how quickly can they get through the course and start looking for clients?

Some students have zipped through the course over the weekend but then go back and apply the action steps.

In as little as 4-6 weeks you can land your first client.

Do you have any tips for someone who is thinking about becoming a freelance writer?

Make sure that this is something for you. Do your research on what is freelance writing and if you can make money doing this.

So there you have it, if freelance writing is something that interests you, you can check out Elna’s course here.  What I love the most is that Freelance Writing can be done from anywhere, which is why it’s perfectly suited to people who want to get on the road and enjoy traveling FT in an RV.
